(CAG) is a group that needs the community members to have a part in determining the HIV/AIDS related services that are provided to the residents of Vermont. This group is important in promoting effective HIV/AIDS related care and prevention programs in the state of Vermont. To do this Vermont acts as an advisory group to the Vermont Department of Health HIV/AIDS/STD/HEP C programs on the issues of HIV/AIDS prevention and care. FRIENDS OF LEDDY PARK HOLD CLEAN UP DAY:Thanks to all of the Friends of Leddy Park who came out November 15 to help clean up Leddy Park. It was a very successful day. A total of 11 volunteers collected 14 bags of trash and a large amount of metal/junk and blankets. In addition a group of people worked on trail maintenance and a large piece of metal was removed from the trail and braces were put in place to bank up the sloped trail for future dirt or gravel deposit. What a difference a day can make when a dedicated group of park enthusiasts donates their time and energy - thank you volunteers!
The SISTA Project has changed Organizations! You knew us before as Woman of Color Alliance, but WOCA has now closed. We have started a new Organization under which to run SISTA. SISTA United Alliance is not just our organization, it’s YOUR organization. Help grow your community by participating, volunteering, donating or whatever you can do to contribute. We are branching out and have many new programs for you to take advantage of but we need you.

Great Pumpkin Regatta
October 12, 2008 10:00 AM TO 3:00 PM The First Annual Giant Pumpkin Regatta, sponsored by The Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, pits the regions giant gourd growers and local businesses against each other in what is a competition of size and speed. While it sounds both impossible and crazy, it is a boat race, but the boats are giant pumpkins. The giant pumpkins are carved and hollowed out, put in the lake with forklifts, and raced as if they were kayaks. Join the paddlers and their PVC's (personal vegetable crafts) as they help raise awareness for the Chittenden Emergency Food shelf, official charity of the Great Pumpkin Regatta. Community Advisory Group (CAG) is a group that needs the community members to have a part in determining the HIV/AIDS related services that are provided to the residents of Vermont. This group is important in promoting effective HIV/AIDS related care and prevention programs in the state of Vermont. To do this Vermont acts as an advisory group to the Vermont Department of Health HIV/AIDS/STD/HEP C programs on the issues of HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Help make these important decisions and get paid for your time! This membership calls for your involvement and attendance to bi-monthly meetings for which you will also be reimbursed for travel cost i.e. gas money.

Showing of Documentary: Unnatural Causes
NeighborKeepers and Fletcher Allen Health Care are sponsoring a free screening of the first segment of the documentary series UNNATURAL CAUSES on October 30 at 6:30 PM at the Main Street Landing Film House (bottom of College Street).
The UNNATURAL CAUSES documentary series goes beyond the popular belief that health is linked only to medical care, lifestyle and genes to explore evidence of other, more powerful determinants that lead to health disparities: the social conditions in which we are born, live and work. For example, studies show that in the U.S. individuals with a low income have twice the rate of disease as the affluent. However, it's not just the poor who are sick. Even the middle classes die, on average, almost three years sooner than the rich. And, no matter what your income, if you're African American, your risk of disease is higher.
So, do we all have an equal chance at health? Could Economic Policy = Health Policy? According to UNNATURAL CAUSES, higher health rates are not a product of better medicine. Currently, the U.S. spends two and a half times as much per person on health care than other industrialized nations and yet our health outcomes are among the worst in the industrialized world. Other countries that have invested in education and social policies have been able to break the cycle of poverty and spend much less on health care.
